Why are people leaving WhatsApp?

WhatsApp, one of the most popular messaging apps, has lost more than 30 million users since the beginning of January. The mass “exodus” from WhatsApp is due to an ill-prepared update to the platform’s terms of service: users have been negatively greeted by updates to the application’s terms of use.

People saw in the innovations the upcoming cancellation of the privacy of correspondence, associated with the provision of data by the messenger of its parent company – Facebook.

Because of the updates in WhatsApp, users decided to switch to messengers such as Signal and Telegram. A committee of the British Parliament said that in the first three weeks of January the audience of Signal increased by 7.5 million users, Telegram – by 25 million users, which is significantly higher than the average dynamics of these applications.
